I tend to be a little prickly on this subject because over the years I've met too many people who scoffed at the heavy stuff and were very dismissive of it. I wasn't personally attacking you. Some bands took themselves entirely too seriously and your right that's when they tended to become more than a little silly. But I have to agree the genre has spawned many talented musicians and a lot of the music is well constructed and sophisticated and nobody could play a heavier riff than Tony Iommi.
