You would also be wise to consider 'the law' in much wider contexts as well. If you have health insurance and it covers 'your children' - are illegimate children covered? You will probably find they are not, unless explicitly named, because the firm will not want to cover the result of that mad fling you had ten years back. What about travel insurance?
