Subject: RE: Fame at last Les Barker!
i see Les Barker is coming to California
so perhaps some of us across the pond
will finally see what this bloke is all
about.
from a radio producer:
>I am a huge fan of Les Barker, for those who have never heard of him
>turn out for this one you will not regret it. I play a great deal of Les

Les Barker is also doing a Fiddling Cricket show in San Jose on Sunday.
Details below.

The Espresso Garden is a very intimate venue, seating about 85 in the
current configuration. Just the perfect size for a spoken word artist
like Les Barker.

Les Barker
Sunday 23rd November, 4.30pm. $14
British Poet, Parodist, Humorist. Our only non-musical event.

Maybe the best writer of parody and wordplay the English
speaking folk world has heard. Dirty Linen

Les Barker writes strange poems and comes from Manchester. He
was an accountant before he became a professional idiot. He has
written 70 slim books, which sell in large numbers at his gigs
because people cant quite believe what they just heard. His
poems have spawned a number of folk heroes: Jason and the
Arguments, Spot of the Antarctic, Cosmo the Fairly Accurate Knife
Thrower He also has several solo albums with titles like Up the
Creek without a Poodle, which contain poems with titles like
Guide Cats for the Blind and Dachshunds with Erections Cant
Climb Stairs. Les has travelled the length, breadth and height of
Britain (as well as Hong Kong, Australia, New Zealand, the US and
Canada) performing (?) at major folk festivals and small clubs.
Audiences inevitably end up in hysterics. Hes very hard to
describe, but here is only one of him, so come hear him. A sample
can be heard (supposedly co-written by Mr Barker and Mr Bush,
An Odd Kind of Ultimatum, at his website, www.mrsackroyd.com)
