Thread Name: Obit: Songwriter/Singer Don Gibson (1928-2003)
Subject: RE: Obit: Don Gibson
I was in the Don Gibson Fan Club 40 years ago. I loved the guy. At his best he was a fabulous singer and fantastic songwriting. "A Legend in my Time" is my favourite of his many great composition. I wish I'd have thought of the idea first - and then had the talent to mould it into a classic pop/country ballad. He was , maybe, the key influence on Roy Orbison's development as a songwriter. I'l finish with snatch ftom the aforemention "A Legend in My Time":
" If heartaches brought fame in love's crazy game
I'd be a lengend in my time.
I'f say gave gold statuettes for tears and regrets,
I'd be a legend in my Time"
