There's a lot of good stuff I could tell you about, but I'd need to know dates. "Next year" is a little bit vague.

Acoustic Harvest Folk Club has really good acts about once a month. Hugh's Room is really nice but on the expensive side when you include supper. The Flying Cloud Folk Club meets almost every Sunday night, with wonderful acts, and one can find a seat there for most concerts at the last minute. There's also a Friday night song circle I could direct your friend to as well.
