I think George became popular because no one else was recording anything like it at the time and it filled a niche. He's become an easy target since then. But if someone is recrding music that people enjoy I don't see what the problem is. I don't care for Celine Dion but if people want to buy her music thats fine with me.
Two things I would compliment George on. He makes space available at each of his concerts for a local food bank to promote themselves and collect food. And he makes available a list of musical artists that were his influences over the years. He tells people { from the stage } that if you like this number you really need to check out Professor Longhair. Or other related artists.
Concertwise he's also known to throw in a few musical suprises like slack-key guitar pieces or a few celtic or jewish harmonica solos. And he's a nice guy.
