Thread Name: Tune Req: what is Argeers ??
Subject: RE: Tune Req: what is Argeers ??
Titles include "Argeers," "Argeres," "Argeres, or The Wedding Night," and:
Argiers,or The Wedding-night (The Dancing Master, 1651-1728: An Illustrated Compendium By Robert M. Keller)
Note by Margaret Dean-Smith in Playford's English Dancing Master 1651 (Schott, 1957, p. 49):
ARGEERS
No information: the tile is probably a form of Algiers.
The dance is of the same general type as 'Heart's Ease' (54) and other dances for two couples, sharing their resemblance to the fugured Italian bassa danza.
