Wow! thanks Cluin, I have to find this gem asap. I don't live near a video rental shop with a large selection so I guess I'll have to try one of those mail rentals, if the film IS available for rent.

The more I read about Sullivan's Travels the better it sounds.

The Coen brothers borrow bits and pieces from many sources, McGrath of H. I watch the film about once a month and find "new" things each time I do. I recently got a copy of The Saragossa Manuscript and found a scene in THAT film that must have inspired Mel Brooks to create the Blind Hermit scene in Young Frankenstein. It all makes sense, though. Film makers also watch films. It is great fun to catch instances of "cross pollination". Almost as much fun is to note odd bits in a film, seemingly unrelated to the story or errors that weren't edited out.
