Thread Name: Lyr Req: Adelita (trad. Mexico)
Subject: RE: Lyr Req: Words to the Mexican Song ADELITA
Bob Skyles and the Skyrockets did a commercial version in western swing style on the old blue Decca 5000 label in the late 30s. I think I still have the 78 somewhere, if it hasn't broken. The Skyles version is called "Goodbye, Adelita, Goodbye," and this was part of the chorus. (Something like:

"And my prayer is to hold you and never
Say goodbye, Adelita, goodbye." Pronounced "A-de-lay-ta" on the record, IIRC.)

Haven't played the record or attempted the song myself in close to 30 years but I think the lyrics are non-specific going off to war, hope I come back to you, stuff.

("If I never return to you, my darling,
And the fate of battle says that I must die,
With your name on my lips I'll be praying,
Goodbye, Adelita, goodbye."

That sounds pretty familiar and I know I didn't write it myself.)
