Joe Hickerson, recently retired from his position as head of the Archive of Folk Culture at the Library of Congress, could probably tell you a lot about it. He was there, too. Grant Rogers, "Catskill Mountain Songmaker," used to perform there. I made a record of his music in the early 60's. It's still available as a "custom cassette" on Folk-Legacy.
