My uncle swore this was a true story.

He was driving in blizzard conditions, following the tail lights of the car in front of him. Suddenly the tail lights disappeared. For some reason he stopped the car and got out to investigate rather than continue. He discovered that he (and the car ahead) had driven off the road and through a field. The leading car had gone over a cliff. The driven was dead.

Why would you think the guy in front of you can see any better than you?
