I am with ossonflags in the defense of Ewan MacColl. In a sidways manner he brings up a very good point--the Pogues version of "Dirty Old Town" is how 90% of the public know the song--and very unfortunately that's how aspiring rookies try to sing it---eeeeuuuugggghhhhh. Sean What's-his-face's voicing should have been the last word on a raunchy vocal of a contemporary folk song--instead it became a starting point for many much much worse attempts.

Lay Lady Lay has one major thing going for it: the hook is the first four chords, the loveliest progression Dylan ever authored (from a short list obviously), which make me want to like the song itself...
nice to hear and fun to play, and good for relative beginners who are just getting solid on barre chords.
