You bet there are some good Canadian cheeses. The best come from Quebec, as far as I can tell. My favourite is Sir Laurier d'Arthabaska (of course that should be Sir Wilfrid Laurier, but that's what the cheese is called) - a soft cheese with a powerful smell, something like Munster. Put it on the sideboard to breathe for a few hours and approach with care. Lots of great goat cheese too.

I don't know what kind of Canadian cheddar you get in England, but you can get cheddar in Canada that's I would put up against cheddar from any other country. You might have to look around for it, though. Balderson's dairy in Eastern Ontario makes very good old cheddar.

In fact, if you do visit Canada and find yourself near Ottawa, P.M. me and I'll take you to a couple of great cheese shops in the Byward Market.

HuwG: can't find Reblochon or Tome de Savoie? I feel your pain. Reblochon is high on my list too. Luckily, it's easy to get at the aforesaid cheese shops in the Byward Market. I would have thought that it would be easy to find in Britain thanks to the EEC.
