the flu vaccine is not just cranked out in a lab...it needs eggs to be incubated in, and it takes about 2 months to BUY lots of eggs, grow the vaccine and get it into a usable form....the drug companies guess each summer how much they're going to need and how bad it's going to be...and this year there is a sub-strain they didn't count on....and THEN the news media panicked everyone and remaining stocks went quickly.
It's doubtful any significant amount could be made in time to help a lot this season..
My wife DID get one of the very last available at our HMO, I did not. We will just hope her shot takes effect before she gets exposed...(Maryland was not a major affected area as of this week...Virgina was, so I imagine it will get here.)
