Just a minor thought but if it was at night would it be any use to hang a few of those cyclist's "reflectors on stalks off" the side of your car? One out of the driver;s window etc is easily removed when parked. Worth a try. Problem is you have to look like a wally 364 days a year for the insurance of it to pay off.

You obviously have a route or road culture where you are that would make it worth while.
