About 14 years ago my husband was over from the UK, working in southern Wyoming for a couple of months, and damaged his hire car one night on his way to Saratoga, where he was staying. It was a deer again. I think he traded the car back in for a more hefty 4x4 after that, having convinced the hire company that he was telling the truth.

I'm so glad that none of you guys have been hurt!

I don't know how the law stands over there about taking home (specifically) game animals and birds that you have run over. Here I think it is classed as poaching, and therefore technically a criminal offence (although somebody would have to catch you doing it). But as far as I know, anybody else coming along - even in the car behind - can legally pick it up, as they have merely "found" it.
