It's sad having to add to the recent too large number of obituaries, but for those of you with an interest in German folk music: Anselm Noffke, founder member and right-hand man of Germany's second eldest folk band, 'Liederjan', died of cancer last Sunday. He was very much part of the German folk scene, a consummate performer (I saw him on stage three weeks ago, and though clearly ill, he gave the audience their money's worth), and a staunch member of our North German folk association. He was also one of the kindest people I know, with his quietness, even shyness off-stage hiding a wicked sense of humour. I'm sure there are many in Germany who will miss him in a very personal sense, most of all, of course, his wife and four teenage children.
