OK. Lets look at this logicaly. (Captain...) Taste is personal and subjective so we need to discount it in any analysis. Amount of fat, protein and carbohydrate could count but as different diets say different things we need to exclude those for the purpose of simple comparison. So, what are we left with. Simply, the energy or calorific value.
So. John's Pot Noodle was 79p. I do not know what flavour it was but let us assume it was an 87g 'Nice'n'spicy' version with 381 kcal. We get a value of 381 / 79 = 0.21p per kcal.
Let us now compare this base line to some other foods. I will endevour to keep within the bounds of what is eaten when 'the munchies strike' by using only conveniece foods btw! And Tesco was the easiest to navigate so I use their prices:-)
420 g Baked beans - 34p / 390kcal = 0.09p per kcal
6 x iced buns at 89p / 687kcal = 0.13p per kcal
Peter's Regency Sausage roll 49p / 528kcal = 0.09p per kcal.
Hmmmm. Based on the limited tests carried out here. Yes, John. I am afraid Pot Noddles are a rip off. Sorry.
