PJ, when you calm down a little you will notice that these dang machines and codes do what we
say not what we want. 'B'in the little pointy things [angle brackets], as you have just discovered, gives you BOLD
Whereas, putting 'BR'in the little pointy things gives you a line BReak.
And BOLD, as you noted in your message, doesn't go away until you tell it to stop by putting '/B' in another cute little set of pointy things. Ain't computers wonderful?
