My understanding re: folk collection is that much of the copyright strength relies on the uniqueness of the find. The principle being that you have a copyright on your work. The Lomax stuff could probably be challenged by the performers they recorded and prior recordings etc... but to whatever extent they are the only source you have to attribute and pay yer dues.

Have you found impediments to using there collections? Care to share your discoveries of their rate requirements etc....
