Auden's estimable _Oxford Book of Light Verse_ contains a music-hall song called "Charlie Piecan" ("I haven't told him, not up to now") by Frederick Murray & Frederick Leigh:
It doesn't always do to let a mug know everything. Can't you rumble? I can. Look at Charlie Piecan. He's a bloke as happy as the birds upon the wing. Charlie don't believe in Worrying and grieving. He gave me half a quid a day or two ago, to back a horse. The gee-gee came in last of course. He doesn't grumble but takes his beating like a don. He little thinks that I forgot to put the money on.
