Not Gertrude Lawrence, but Marjorie Florence Lawrence. The following is drawn from The Concise Oxford Dictionary of Music, 1957. "Born Victoria, Australia, 1908, operatic debut Monte Carlo 1932, stricken with infantile paralysis in 1941, though unable to walk, successfully reappeared in opera and concert hall, 1942."
