I can see, John, that you have a quite different set of needs than I do, so the issue is non-trivial for you. (I did have one instance when Nero would not burn a CD, and in that case it listed the file names that it was not happy with. I went to my directory and re-named them, and it then went fine.)

I guess, like any tool, various CD programs are fine-tuned for specific uses. I'm glad to see your explanation, though...it may save me a lot of puzzling at some future time!
