St Mary's City Maryland, where the Potomac flows into the Chesepeake. It's not really close to anything, which may add to it's charm. There's a historic park, a college, and a bird sanctuary, with a lot of blue herons. You can pick up fossils on the beach, or just sit and watch the water. If you're lucky the park people will be sailing the Dove, the replica of the little ship that brought the first colonists to Maryland.
Please tell any and all developers that it is full of sink holes, and poisonous marsh gasses, and other things that would make building a Wal Mart unfeasable.
