Thread Name: BS: Stuff about Hull
Subject: RE: BS: Stuff about Hull
In the seventies I answered an advert in Sounds Music paper for a penpal....(yeah sad maybe, but exciting at 14yrs old.) It was from a guy called Phil who lived in Hull and he mentioned Zappa in the ad, so I thought aha a kindred spirit.

I lied about my age, told him I was 18 ( God only knows why.)We corresponded back and forth for about a year and even exchanged trying to look all grown up and sophisticated in a Woolies photo booth. Anyway, he was coming to London for a gig, and we arranged to meet under a stone lion in Trafalgar Square.

At the last minute I bailed out and stood him up, from a mixture of nerves and terror.I never wrote again, and being phoneless at the time, knew he couldn't get in touch to say, "Oi, where the hell were you?". I felt awful, he seemed so genuine, had long gingery hair.

So Phil from Hull was lovely, sorry Phil.
