'Twas a wearifu' wark, that befel i' the dark,
'Tween Donald and Maggy M'Craw, man;
On the night o' that day, when married were they,
To prevent what else might be a flaw, man.
For in bed baith thegither, the tane 'side the tither,
The fleas they crap up in a raw, man.
An' he claw'd, an' she claw'd; an' she claw'd an' he claw'd,
An' they claw'd ane anither, an' a' man.
The king o' the flaes, he march'd up through the claes,
An' thousans a-hint him did draw, man;
Baith hungry an' lean, they stack to their queen,
But the queen was the hungriest o' a' man,
An' then they began on the wife an' the man.
Without either reason or law, man
That he claw'd, an' she claw'd, &c.A flea took a jump on the great M'Craw's rump,
Whar he had nae bus'ness ava, man;
An' using his sting, M'Craw gae a fling,
Whan o'er the bed Maggy did fa' man.
She drave o'er the loom, by my saul, 'twas na' toom,
An' fairly she brake it in twa, man.
Then he claw'd, an' she claw'd, &c.
But the warst thing of a' that Maggy did befa'
Was a flea wi' a monsterous jaw, man.
Wha, wi' wicked intent, seized Maggy behint,
Till she roar'd out to Donald M'Craw, man;
Donald, quick as a dart, flew straight to the part,
An' stan'd them up to the wa', man.
While she claw'd, an' he claw'd, &c.
