People vote with the pocketbooks.    Clearly they are voting for Wal Mart.    If you don't like it, don't shop there- or Home Depot (which drove out all the hardware stores) or Office Max/Staples (which drove out all the stationary stores) or any other big box.

It is up to the local mom and pops to offer a niche or special service to distinguish themselves.   If they do they prosper. If they don't they go out of business.   That is capitalism.

And the system is working.   America has 5% of the worlds population but 43% of the worlds GNP according to Newsweek magazine.   And this is actually increasing.   A recent article stated how the EURO had planned to catch up to America, but has actually fallen futher behind and is still losing ground.

I do not generally shop at Wal Mart, but would have no problem shopping there if it was convienent.   In talking to friends of mine, I would have to say the treatment of employees at K Mart and Meijers is worse than that of Wal Mart.
