I just took my 60+ year old White sewing machine in for service and a little repair job. It will cost me about $65 to $70, and you can probably buy a cheap plastic machine at Walmart for just over $100. But this machine will keep going for many years yet, 99% of the sewing most people do is in a straight line forward (as this old machine does). It has attachments for the rest. Too much is thrown out, not enough is repaired. Walmart is a symbol of American conspicuous consumption--of the world's resources. Americans are blind, and Walmart sells blinders. It's a perfect match.
