Subject: RE: Review: What's everyone listening to?
I for one like these threads. Not on the cuttin edge and a little slow on the take, I like to know who everybody is talking about. So my discoveries are not new. Since I'm new to the fiddle, I've been listening to a lot of what I cannot do. I really like Natalie McMaster's 'Fit as a Fiddle,' with a pile of graceful notes and intriguing rhythm changes in her medlies. I've never heard such a driving rhythm section. Also into the Balfa Brothers' classic Cajun recordings and digging out old albums by the Kentucky Colonels featuring Scotty Stoneman's furious and endlessly creative jamming. Michael Doucet and Beausoleil turns up on my carousel daily. Perhaps I would benefit more at this time by listening to some lousy fiddling, but all I have is my own.
