Rapaire, you beat me to it. I also remembered that "Notary Sojack" came from the Smokey Stover cartoon. I believe it would be written on a sign in the background of a scene. It was never referred to or explained.

The cartoonist who did Smokey Stover put enigmatic personal things in the strip. The only one I know about was a memorial to a dead ladykilling friend. The friend's suite was 1616, and the phrase "1616 nix-nix" would appear in the strip as a warning to virtuous girls.

Ah, the good old days.
