I see no blame in serviing in the National Guard.

And I don't see much blame in being a little AWOL. I myself was sometimes technically AWOL from the First Infantry Division, going off to Junction City without a pass for a few hours once in a while. Never missed any duty, never got caught.

Being AWOL for months is something else. If I'd done that my ass would've been grass, as the expression was.

And I don't lie about it now.
