I was reading only yesterday in the Independent about an Englishman raised in South London, but who went to St Andrews University and got a PhD in Classics, and was so obsessed by Scotland that he invented a childhood in the Hebrides, accent etc. His deception was so convincing that he was appointed Director of the Saltire Society
