Beatrix Potter wrote, "In the land of Green Ginger there is a town called Marmalade that is inhabited exclusively by guinea pigs." It goes on to tell the story of Tuppeny the short haired guinea pig, who wants to be a long haired guinea pig, and the disaster that ensues. I think it's part of her Fairy Caravan series.
