Real folksingers did commercials, which how I first heard folk music.

The Mobil commercial alluded to above, the one about the rocker arm assembly? I believe it was sung by the Clancy Brothers and Tommy Makem.

Then there's this one written by Tom Paxton:
My dog's bigger than your dog,
My dog's bigger than yours.
My dog's bigger 'cuase he eats Ken-L Ration
My dog's bigger than yours.

And this, written and sung by Tom Glazer, aired in New York for about 40 years and taugh generations the word "incontrovertible":

Who was the first to conquer space?
It's incontrovertible
That the first to conquer living space
Was a Castro Convertible
Who conquers space with fine design?
Who saves you money all the time?
Who's tops in the convertible line?
Castro Convertible.

And this from the 1950s, written and sung by Bob Gibson:

A cagey old pirate who lived in a tree
Loved syrup much better than golden jewelry.
He buried his treasure chest out in the glade
Filled with real maple syrup by Vermont Maid
So learn well this lesson from my serenade:
There's no finer syrup than sweet Vermont Maid
It's naturally flavored with the very best grade
Of real maple sugar -- that's my Vermont Maid.
