Thread Name: Jingles you remember.
Subject: RE: Jingles you remember.
I only just stumbled onto this thread, and it has been a real trip down memory lane. I once ran a "TV jingles and theme songs" workshop at the Folklore Society of Greater Washington mini-festival, but I think I'm strictly an also-ran when it comes to remembering jingles!

Four comments:

1. Mark Cohen (19 Oct 02 - 05:45 AM) made note of

Hey, get your cold beer, get your ice cold Ballantine Beer
It's the beer that's crisp and icily light
Clear cold taste that's precisely right
Frosty, lively, crystally clear
The crisp refresher, Ballantine, Ballantine Beer

Here's the way I remember it from the Washington DC area:

To be crisp, a beer
must be icily light
with true lager flavor
precisely right
lively golden, crystally clear
the crisp refresher (duh duh duh duh duh duh)
Ballantine, Ballantine beer!
Heeeeeeey, get your cold beer!
Heeeeeeey, get your Ballantine
Heeeeeeey, get your cold cold beer
get your ice-cold Ballantine beer!

2. Giac (19 Oct 02 - 12:50 PM) mentioned "Looky, looky, looky, Here comes Cookie, Cook's Pest Control." My mother-in-law taught my daughter a song that goes "Looky, Looky, Looky, Here comes [or maybe "there goes"] Cookie, Walking down the street". I'm betting that Giac's Pest Control ad derives from that song.

3. freightdawg (19 Feb 04 - 06:45 PM) mentioned Burma Shave signs. I once actually saw a genuine, for real Burma Shave sign series(it was in the sixties, while my dad was driving us to Atlantic City NJ.) It wasn't terribly memorable, went like this:

King Henry VIII
Sure had trouble
Short term wives
Long term stubble
Burma Shave

4. Finally, here is one that has stuck in my mind since the sixties:

Reach for a peach
a peach of a bleach
new Bleach Tabs by Barcoleen

I'm not sure of the spelling of "Barcoleen", and I don't believe the product exists anymore.
