I bloody well hope not! ROTK was far & away the worst of 3 less than sparkling adaptations of the book (& no, I don't class myself as a purist or a RTF). He might have deserved it for the first film of the trilogy, but the last is a piece of garbage!

I'd agree with Cluin that the look was near perfect. Unfortunately, Mr Muppet Jackson & his wife saw fit to take appalling & unforgiveable liberties (i.e. completely unnecessary changes that added rather less than nothing) with the story itself. In the first film, this is a fairly minor point.

In the last they're glaringly (& obviously shit)! He doesn't know how to adapt a film from a book, his directorial style is pants (take 3 second scene that ought to be suspenseful, extend it to 30 seconds, lose all dramatic effect e.g. Sam's "drowning"), & his previous track record is non-existent. He's a good salesman, make no mistake. He conned, sorry, persuaded movie magnates to back the filming of what was considered unfilmable. Unfortunately, his persuasiveness is greater by far than his artistic ability. He's fucked up the film of the book that was voted the best of the millenium.
