Raedwolf, I've read the books 4 or 5 times, but it's been years (and years!). I guess I just don't remember what he changed or care since it seemed to work for me. Movies are a different media than books and you have tell the story differently.

Oh, well, I enjoyed them enough and don't consider any of the really sacred portions of the books to have been tampered with.
