Villan, good ideas from Breezy - a couple of quid's not too much to charge ,or if you don't want to overdo it for a start try performers £1, listeners £2, that's a fairly standard level of charge in this area.

The 10 quid membership did seem a bit of a put-off but, when you divide by 26 (for a fortnightly club), it's cheap at 38p a night! However, the cricket club would have been the richer and the folk club would not, so I'd personally favour the entrance fee (presumably you'll have to pay a hire fee for the room out of that but it'll leave a growing fund for the eventual booking of guest artistes).
