Thread Name: Call and Response songs - gospel
Subject: RE: Call and Response songs - gospel
A cxouple of songs that come to mind, which are not well known are
Who Built The Ark?

Lead: Who built the Ark?
Response: Brother Noahey

repeated twice;

Then, sung by lead singer and harmonies:

Brother Noahey built that Ark
Brother Noahey built that Art

Oh, Moanah, You shall be free, oh you shall be free
When the good Lord sets you free

And, an old southern black gospel song Toll The Bell:

Lead: Toll the bell
Response: I done got over

Repeat twice

The lead and harmonies sing : I done got over at last

The verses are familiar to many black gospel songs. For example:

Lead: My hand got stuck to the gospel plow
Response: I done got over at last

Lead: I wouldn't take nothing for my journey now
Response: I done got over at last

More commonly, many black gospel songs have the first line sung by the lead, and then the lead and harmonies join together, repeating the first line:

Lead: Woke up this morning with my mind, standing on Jesus
All:   Repeat twice
Lead: Hallelu
Response: Send down
Lead: Hallelu
Response: My Lord
All: Hallelujah
