Taking a look at ard mhacha's first post, the following struck me, substitute the USA for Scotland and Republican/Nationalist for Loyalist and it still rings true:

The only thing you, quite rightly IMO, get castigated for ard, is your complete and utter inability to view things objectively, let alone, admit to any possible failing, fault or responsibility of the part of the Nationalist/Republican side - and believe me, looking at the whole sorry mess objectively, there were plenty of them.
