The Pennsylvania route adds exactly 42 miles to the drive from New England. I've clocked it both ways, because I was curious. However, it adds only about a half hour more driving time--and not because I'm a crazy driver. There are NO TOLLS on the Pa. route, so you're not always standing in line waiting to pay for the privilege of driving again. Through Pa. from Newtown, Connecticut, it's just about 7 hours to my house in Silver Spring--about an hour less to the Getaway. Boston is a 9-hour drive to my house through Pennsylvania (which would make it 8 hours to Darlington). I drive fairly fast (75 in 65mph zone) and have the proverbial camel bladder that requires very few stops along the way. On 95, you have to pay (eastbound only) for whichever NY bridge you cross, for the NJ Turnpike and/or Garden State Parkway, the Delaware Memorial Bridge, the Delaware Turnpike, and the northern Maryland portion of I-95 (northbound only). It all adds up to lots of lines, lots of money, and (at least in my case) lots more stress. Pennsylvania route is over interesting, scenic roads. And did I mention no tolls? Kathy
