The 87 to 287 to 95 dodge, avoiding the Garden State madness, is a pretty good one, Midchuck. I've used it, but I confess I prefer Kathy's route through Pennsylvania, especially now that the chronic construction hang-up around Scranton has been eliminated (or wasn't causing the usual problems when I last drove over that way). Being able to avoid New Jersey altogether makes it a lot easier on the temper, too. Give 'er a go!
