Apologies for this bit of drift, but I've just noticed in Roger's December posting a reference to Marie Celeste.   Just about everyone calls her that and probably will for ever more, so not much point in going on about it, but the actual name of the famous ship was Mary Celeste. I believe Conan Doyle was responsible for the later Frenchifying of her name.
