What is significant here is that Bush doesn't care. If he did he
would have been more careful but he doesn't care if he's a statesman
or not.

His mispronunciation of words is a form of showing contempt for the
Eastern Ivy League intellectuals (like Nixon). He's a graduate of Harvard Business School and Yale and knows how to talk when he wants to. But people identify with his misprounounced words. It's a political device to get people who are "anti-egghead" on his side.

as he says, "don't misunderestimate" him. He's clever that way.
