Thread Name: Rick Fielding's 'Virtual' CD Release
Subject: RE: Rick Fielding's 'Virtual' CD Release
I'm bringing this up again because I just got the CD last week. Borealis sent it out rather quickly, it went air mail, and it took two weeks to get here. I think pigeons could probably manage in at least half that time!

It was, indeed, worth the wait. As I said somewhere before, it's the most Rick-like recording he's made. It has some heavy-duty picking songs on it, 'Houston Special' and 'Step It Up and Go'. It's got Hangman's Reel, so evocative that one can almost hear the squeak of a heavily-weighted rope swaying back and forth at the end. (If one has one's stereo cranked up pretty loud, that is.) It's got songs to make you wet both your cheeks AND your pants, and...am I the only one who thinks the recording of 'Cuckoo' is an incredibly innovative linking of the old-time American version back to its British roots?

This music, as his home, is one big 'Acoustic Workshop' and I'm grateful for both...or perhaps they're one and the same. In my own mind, I'm there, and I will be, whenever I listen, and hear, and lose myself in that wonderful music. Thank you.
