Being the last to post isn't so bad. You can fool yourself into thinking that you have summed everything up in one concise, all encompassing paragraph such that no further discussion is necessary.

Far worse is adding some witticism or apposite point in the middle of a hot topic and it falling on deaf ears. The subsequent posters reply to the posts immediately above yours and the discussion continues as if you had never been there. It makes you want to creep out of the room and wish that you'd kept your mouth shut.
