That's like the ice fishing story:
You go out onto the ice with your augur, a club and a can of peas. Drill a hole in the ice and arrange the peas around the rim of the hole. When the fish comes up to take a pea, you club him. That's it.
I have found that using a cornbread or pancake batter at about 50% of the 'official' strength works well for fritters of various sorts. [That means 50% of the usual amount of solids in the liquid batter.]
