Hi Lynn in Aus...
CITY OF ANGELS...One of his best and my favourites!!

Oh, the visitors come to worship the sea and the sun in the Gulf of Siam
And the coconut palms, with heaven stretched arms, bid a welcome to every falang.    (foreigner!)
Where the Thai girls, so nice, around sculptures of ice dance the dance of a thousand years
While the young Anchali, on the foreigners knee, seems to mirror the melting with tears.

Greater love has no-one in this world like the young Anchali
To lay down herself in the City of Angels to feed here family
Greater love has no-one in this world like the young Anchali
To lay down herself to be free of the pain of the poverty.

Well, she came from a farm in far off Esarn where she tended the rice with the village
Until a strong Western breeze brought the Eucalypt trees and the lumber men planterd and pillaged.
In corruption they grew while the wealth of the few from above showed no love for the farmers
So the rain forest cried...the rice paddy died..Anchali just accepted her karma.

So the harvest it failed, her father was beaten and jailed for confronting his betters
Then the big bossman came, he said this pretty young dame has the beauty to pay off debtors,
But she strived to survive, to keep her family alive weaving silk for the stores in the city
But the stories arrived...how the country girls thrived in the bars where the whores are so pretty
So she strayed from Esarn to Patpong to dance on the bars and to sleep with dangers
And they gave her a fee...the virus was free..a gift from the sun loving strangers.

Wll, young Anchali came...she offered her shame and her name to the City of Angels.
