Bert, I've not come acrross your suggestion but looking at the words, is this related to Home Boys Home? Those lines could be sung to that tune...

It always amazes me how a few words can get us thinking of so many different songs. The one I first had thought of has a sort of chorus:

It's oot the barn and o'er the hill,
Through the dark, and there's the still,
A cup in yer hand an' drink yer fill,
And the moon was shinin'...clear.

And another song (Corn Rigs) that I know has the verse:

The sky was blue, the wind was still,
The moon was shining clearly.
I set her down wi' right good will
Amang the rigs o' barley.
