Also, to clarify some of the messages above, the national award, or honour, that Bob received at Buckingham Palace last week, from Prince Charles, was called an M.B.E., or Member of the British Empire.
This is not to be confused with an O.B.E., or Officer of the British Empire, although both are different levels of award within the overall 'Order of the British Empire'. Naturally these awards have their origins in history, dating from a time when we still had an empire... Anyone interested can read more about it here:

At the Royal Oak Folk Club in Lewes this evening a few informal words
in tribute to Bob were spoken by Vic Smith (the organiser), by Martin Carthy (the evening's guest performer), and by various members of the audience, including Shirley Collins. He will be missed.
